effective proclaimer—one who effectively communicates the truth of God to the spiritual needs and hunger of His people. It’s interesting to be around people and hear them talk about their pastors. I frequently hear people say something like, “Well, he doesn’t have much of a bedside manner, and we wish he could be more friendly, but he feeds us the Word of God.” When fundamental spiritual needs are being dealt with and the flock’s expectation to be well fed is being met, respect is a natural by-product.
